About the App
Scoring
Safest Driver assesses your driving based on five key factors:

After each trip, you’ll receive a score and feedback on any unsafe driving events from your trip. You’ll also appear on the in-app leaderboard with other participants based on your score. User ranking on the in-app Leaderboard does not guarantee qualification as Prize Winner at the conclusion of each Contest Period. The Leaderboards do not reflect qualification for minimum eligibility requirements.

Technical Information
Using the sensors in a mobile phone, the app assesses driving performance in five key areas:
- Speed
- Acceleration
- Braking
- Cornering
- Distraction
After each trip, the driver will receive a score and feedback on any unsafe driving behavior. Participants will also have an opportunity to earn achievement badges.
Yes, this access is required for the app to work. Specifically, on iOS 13+ you must select “Always Allow” location permission so that the app can detect trips. Similarly, on Android 10 you must choose “Allow all the time” location access for the app to accurately measure trips and function properly.
Anyone with a smartphone that downloads the Safest Driver app and registers to participate will appear on the leaderboard for their contest city. Not all participants in the contest are eligible to win a prize, as there are eligibility requirements. Therefore, the contest city leaderboard may not necessarily reflect the potential winners. Official Rules and eligibility requirements can be found at https://safest-driver.com/uber-progressive/contest-terms/.

No. Once the app is installed, it will automatically run in the background. The app can detect distracted driving based on smartphone movement.
The safe driving score surfaced in the app is calculated based on individual driving skills as determined exclusively by CMT methodology. The methodology monitors the frequency and acceleration intensity, braking intensity and frequency, and average speed of the vehicle in relation to posted speed limits, along with interaction time with phone while a vehicle is moving. Participants will receive a rating between 1 and 5 (5 being the highest) and suggestive correction action (if applicable) after each trip in each of the following categories: braking, acceleration, cornering, speeding and distraction. A user will receive a driving score after one (1) trip has been completed. At the conclusion of each entry period, the driving score is calculated (highest score possible is 100).
An internet connection is not required to record a drive. It is required in order to upload the drive to CMT servers to be processed and scored, and it is required in order for the app to download new scored trips.
No. Phone apps cannot run if the phone is powered off. However, turning the screen off is fine.
Yes. However, the contest ends April 26, 2020 and you will no longer be eligible for prizes after this date.
The app learns your driving behaviors over time including your common routes. You can review and correct your trip classification from driver to passenger or vice versa if needed. To label your status, open the app and navigate to the trip’s screen. Tap the Steering Wheel Icon in the upper right corner. You will see a series of options to select the correct mode.
